Beware Of The Bear
This song is strictly a figment of my imagination. I wrote it many years ago while sitting in a tree stand with a lot of time on my hands. The huge black bear sunning himself in the snow below my tree, with one eye on my pack sack at the bottom of my ladder (which also contained my lunch!) probably had something to do with my inspiration!
Beware Of The Bear
One day I was hunting in northern Wisconsin
Deer hunting in northern Wisconsin one day,
I spied an old hunter wrapped up in red woolens
Wrapped up in red woolens, on the snow he did lay.
It was late in November last day of season
As I walked over he opened an eye,
Come sit here beside me and hear my sad story
You’d better take heed or you’ll end up like I.
Chorus-
Beware of the Bear that roams through this forest
His eyes are like fire, they’re as red as the clay,
His breathing is heavy, he knows of no danger
No hunter will claim him, he’ll have his own way.
Well that was the last thing the old man did utter
His eyes rolled back and the snow was blood red,
His woolens were shredded, huge tracks all around him
A cold chill went through me when I heard what he’d said.
Chorus-
If you’re ever hunting in northern Wisconsin
You’d best watch your steps as you roam oe’r the land
Old “Red Eye” may find you when you’re unsuspecting
And tear you to shreds while you sit on your stand.
Chorus-
